James Andean is a musician and sound artist. He is active as both a composer and a performer in a range of fields, including electroacoustic music, improvisation, sound art, and audiovisuals. He is a founding member of several groups and ensembles, including Rank Ensemble, LOS duo, and Plucié/DesAndes. He has performed throughout Europe and North America, and his works have been presented around the world.

James is a founding member of improvisation and new music quartet Rank Ensemble and interdisciplinary improvisation ensemble The Tuesday Group, and one half of audiovisual performance art duo Plucié/DesAndes. He has performed throughout Europe and North America, and his works have been presented around the world. He is a lecturer at the Music, Technology and Innovation Research Centre of De Montfort University.

In Akusmata Sähkökitarakvartetti premiered James Andean’s new composition ‘be-mai peligei’, 2017, for four electric guitars, written specifically for the occasion. The work is based on non-traditional tunings, and involves processual interaction between performers, room and gestures.
